About the museum

The Kur-Stadt-Apothekenmuseum (Spa, Town and Pharmacy Museum) in Bad Schwalbach opened in 2002. It is run by the Stiftung Bad Schwalbacher Kur • Stadt • Apotheken • Museum, a foundation established in 2000; a friends' association was also founded at the opening.

The exhibition traces how Bad Schwalbach became a renowned spa after its mineral springs were first described in 1581, with mud, drinking, and bath cures, doctors and spa guests, as well as spa music and sporting events of earlier times. A dedicated section shows the complete furnishings of the Adler-Apotheke from 1642, the oldest pharmacy in the Taunus, with its prescription counter, laboratory, and drug storeroom.

Also part of the museum is the historic print shop of the Aar-Bote. Founded in 1861, the newspaper is considered a unique source for town history, and the museum holds all annual volumes up to 1973. On activity days, visitors can print on a hand press themselves.
