About the museum
The Bauernmuseum Lindena is located in a municipally owned farmstead in the Lindena district of the municipality of Schönborn in the Elbe-Elster district. The property is around 400 years old and has been used as a museum since 1987. Funds from village renewal helped considerably to improve the condition of the buildings.
The three-wing farmstead, with residential house, stables and barn, shows the daily life of a farming family about 100 years ago: the living room, kitchen, bedroom and laundry room are lovingly furnished, along with rural household objects, traditional costumes and farm tools. A classroom with original school benches and slate boards is especially popular with children; school classes can take part in a lesson titled "Wie zur Kaiserzeit" ("Like in Imperial Times").
The museum is run by the Bauernmuseumsverein Lindena e. V., founded in 2004. The members keep up old customs: at Candlemas in February the association invites visitors to the Klemmkuchen festival in the farm barn, on the last Sunday in September it celebrates a harvest festival, and once a month the members meet for a Spinteabend (evening of knitting, embroidery and crochet). Many schools and childcare centers in the area use the house as a day-trip destination.
