About the museum
The Bockwindmühle Trebbus stands in open fields between the districts of Trebbus and Arenzhain in the town of Doberlug-Kirchhain. Master builder Lange erected it in 1881; in 1954 it was placed under heritage protection. After milling operations ended in 1957, restoration began a decade later; on October 22, 1969, the mill was handed over as a museum.
In 1972 a storm damaged the mill and a fire broke out. After repairs it was accessible again from 1973. Anyone looking up beneath the crown wheel (Kammrad) can still see charred beams and roof rafters that recall the event. In 1987 storm damage to the sails was repaired, and in 1998 the entire sail cross (Rutenkreuz) was renewed.
Inside there is a flour grinding floor (Mehlgang), a coarse grinding floor (Schrotgang) and a millet pounder (Hirsestampfe), with which especially hard grain was prepared. A display shows containers, products and tools from everyday mill operation. The mill is still ready for operation and is a stop on the Kohle-Wind & Wasser-Tour.
