About the museum
The Gamburger Buscher-Museum honors the brothers Clemens (1855–1916) and Thomas Buscher (1860–1937). They came from a stonemason and sculptor family based in Gamburg and helped shape the look of art and church furnishings in southern Germany. The museum opened in 2013 after several years of planning, together with the cultural trail “Thomas und Clemens Buscher”. It was funded with money from the LEADER action group Neckar-Odenwald-Tauber, the EU, the State of Baden-Württemberg, the municipality of Werbach and the Ortschaftsrat (local district council) of Gamburg.
The museum is located in the Stettenberger Hof and dedicates a room to each of the two artists. Thomas Buscher, a stone sculptor and wood carver who studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, created over 100 mostly sacred works in neo-Gothic and neo-Baroque styles, mainly in Bavaria and Baden. In 1913 he received the title of Royal Bavarian Professor of Sculpture. Clemens Buscher taught at the Kunstgewerbeschule (school of applied arts) in Düsseldorf and became known through three statues of Emperor Wilhelm I.
The cultural trail with eight stations and information boards leads through the center of Gamburg: from the former residence with workshop, past artworks in the church and the defensive tower, to the Gamburg castle, and it ends at the museum.
