Das kleine Museum
Private museum for Concrete Art and related movements in a building designed by Marcello Morandini; closed until fall 2027.
About the museum
Das Kleine Museum – Kultur auf der Peunt is a private house for contemporary art, founded by Dr. Laura Krainz-Leupoldt from the circle of the Weißenstadt-based companies behind the brands PEMA and Leupoldt. The name refers to the Peunt, a field with once especially productive meadows around today's Goethestraße. The museum is run by the Krainz-Leupoldt Kulturstiftung.
The building served as a post office until 1998 and afterwards for a time as a retail outlet. The Italian artist, designer, and architect Marcello Morandini gave it a new form; the strictly black-and-white facade deliberately stands out from the townscape. Bright exhibition rooms were created inside, and the house was open to visitors from July 2008.
The focus is on art movements that emphasize simplicity and reduction, such as Concrete Art, Constructivism, Op Art, kinetic art, and light art. One room permanently shows works by Morandini, the history of the PEMA and Leupoldt brands is presented in the foyer, and there were also regular temporary exhibitions. Because of road work, the museum is currently closed; a further developed exhibition concept is announced for the reopening in fall 2027.
