About the museum
In 1987, the municipality of Limbach acquired the dilapidated half-timbered barn "Miens Schouer" from 1770, intending to use it as a storage facility after renovation. Only a small part was meant to show old everyday objects. However, a call to residents brought in so many donations of equipment, photos and documents that the whole barn became a museum. With the support of the Landschaftsmuseum Westerwald, it opened on March 20, 1987.
Over four floors, the museum now shows more than 2,000 local history objects on living, housekeeping and working in the Kroppacher Schweiz in the 19th and 20th centuries: work and kitchen tools, machines, household furnishings, musical instruments, historic photos and files. On the first floor there is, among other things, milk processing, an old washing machine and the hand fire pump of the former village fire brigade; on the second floor, a living area and a room on agriculture.
Under the roof is a natural history section with around 90 taxidermied local animals, as well as a schoolroom corner.
