About the museum
The Echter Nordhäuser tradition distillery is an Art Nouveau building that has been in operation for more than a hundred years. In the historic production rooms – the mill room, distilling room, spirits warehouse, office and cask cellar – machines are still running, and barrels continue to mature. The house describes itself as the only active grain museum in Germany.
Behind the house stands a Nordhausen grain tradition that, according to the company, goes back more than 500 years. Here rye is turned into grain spirits, gin, whisky and liqueurs; the guided tours show how the distilling process runs from the mill to bottling.
Besides museum operations, the listed ensemble serves as a venue for theater, concerts, cabaret, tastings and exhibitions; every December an Advent exhibition takes place.
