About the museum
Findorffhof in Grasberg commemorates Jürgen Christian Findorff, the moor commissioner who drove forward the settlement of the Teufelsmoor in the 18th century. The farm complex, with several half-timbered buildings, was built between 1976 and 1985 by the Findorff local heritage society, which was founded in 1974 and maintains the Low German language, regional history and the landscape.
In 1994, a fire destroyed the farmhouse down to its foundations. Today the complex belongs to the municipality of Grasberg, while the society looks after it and brings it to life.
The main house is set up as a museum and shows how moor farmers lived and worked in the past. There is also a bake house with a stone oven, a barn with agricultural equipment, a fire engine house with a hand pump from 1925, and a boat shed with a peat barge. Looms stand in the weaving loft and are used regularly.
The society sees the farm above all as a meeting place: coffee afternoons, events and, on request, civil marriage ceremonies take place in the hall.
