About the museum
The Fischerhaus on the Elbterrasse, in the middle of the Blankenese stairway quarter, is one of the oldest surviving residential houses in Hamburg. It is a simple brick half-timbered house with a thatched roof, built as a two-post house ("Tweehus", two-house) for two families. Individual parts, including a timber frame in the western section, are dated to shortly after 1570; the house is first documented in 1690, on resale.
From 1967, the Blankenese parish used the house, which belonged to the city, as a meeting place for its senior citizens' work. From 2002, the Förderkreis Historisches Blankenese (Historic Blankenese support circle) gathered many objects on local and house history there and displayed them in a museum room. In 2017 the house was cleared because of structural dilapidation and was thoroughly renovated by the municipal company Sprinkenhof GmbH.
After the renovation, the house returned to the parish, which runs it as an intergenerational meeting place. The Förderkreis Historisches Blankenese remains a partner and regularly offers tours; parts of the building are rented out as housing.
