About the museum
Glass has been made in the Hils for more than 800 years. The Glasmacherhaus in Grünenplan tells how the "Fürstliche Spiegelhütte auf dem Grünen Plan" (Princely Mirror Glassworks on the Grüner Plan), founded in 1744, became today's glassworks. Duke Carl I of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel had it built through Oberjägermeister J. G. von Langen, the founder of the Fürstenberg porcelain manufactory. Its successor today is Schott AG, which produces specialty glass for protection, optics, medical and technical uses in the town.
Tools, workpieces and photographs show the production processes in the works. The museum also highlights the life and housing of the glassblowers and glassworkers and the unusual role of canaries in Grünenplan. In the outdoor area stands a reconstruction of a glass furnace. The museum is run by the Flecken Delligsen (Delligsen municipality).
