Glasmuseum Wertheim

Glass museum in two half-timbered houses in Wertheim's old town: 3,000 years of glass history, 30 hands-on stations, and a glassblower at work.

Opening hoursAdmission from €7 Partially accessible

About the museum

The initiator was the glass physicist and entrepreneur Dr. Hans Löber. In 1973 the Förderkreis Wertheimer Glasmuseum was founded, today Glasmuseum Wertheim e.V., which still runs the museum. The town of Wertheim had previously acquired a half-timbered house from 1577 from the holdings of the House of Löwenstein, in which the museum opened on three floors in May 1976.

In the 1990s a second historic building from 1588 was restored and opened in 1998 as an exhibition house for special collections and temporary exhibitions. In 2006 the exhibition was fundamentally redesigned and supplemented with around 30 interactive stations to try out.

In the large house, the exhibition spans more than 3,000 years of glass history; in the workshop, a glassblower demonstrates his craft. The small house shows, among other things, historic Christmas tree ornaments, scientific glass, and glass beads. In 2022 Heike Baumann took over as director, and the presentation was revised again.
