About the museum
Sculptor Hans Kock (1920–2007), born in Kiel and raised in Hamburg, a student of Gerhard Marcks, created a total work of art (Gesamtkunstwerk) of landscape and sculpture on the former farm grounds of Gut Seekamp in Schilksee. The estate is first mentioned in 1350. In the 19th century the painter Hans Olde (1855–1917) lived here; his granddaughter Anna Olde and her husband Hans Kock later turned the place into a meeting place for the arts.
The non-profit Hans-Kock-Stiftung (foundation) has the mission of managing, preserving, and opening up the artist's work to the public. Twelve large sculptures of stone and metal stand among the extensive old trees; the grounds, surrounded by a moat, lie within the Heischer Tal nature reserve. The best-known work is the "Kieler Strandfigur".
In the brick manor house, the foundation shows a permanent exhibition of portrait busts, smaller sculptures, and drawings, along with solo shows by younger artists. The former reed-thatched horse stable serves as a venue for readings, concerts, and lectures, which are organized, among others, by the citizens' initiative Kulturpark Seekamp.
