About the museum
The parsonage yard of Alt Jabel comprises the parsonage house, barn and stable, all from the 19th century. The parsonage stable, previously dilapidated, was restored in 1998 and opened a year later as "Dat lütt Museum". Many volunteer work days, donations and the commitment of residents from the surrounding villages made this possible.
On the ground floor of the former cowshed, picture panels show the history of the villages; the pulpit of the former Michaelis church is also kept here. The horse stable displays a hunger rake and many tools from agriculture and forestry. The upper floor houses a classroom of the "old school" with school benches, as well as an exhibition on the refugees of 1945.
The themes range from the settlement history of the Jabel Heath, through cottagers, smallholders and farmers, the Benz manor house and the witch persecutions in the Griese region, to the forest fire of 2019. The museum is run by the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Alt Jabel.
