About the museum
The Heimathaus collection goes back to two teachers, Erich Richter and Walther Koch, who gathered historical objects from households, trades, and industry in the 1930s. At first it was housed in the former civil servants' school, where furniture was lost during the war and the postwar period. From 1953 it was open as a small museum in the "Zur Post" inn on the market square, and later in another inn.
In the 1980s, the local history room was dissolved, and its holdings were distributed or put into storage. After the Heimatverein Nerchau was founded in November 2002, a large part of the collection returned to Nerchau in 2005. The town provided the association with rooms in the former town hall.
Today the Heimathaus shows thematically designed rooms as a permanent exhibition and supplements them with special themes. The archive, with historical documents, photos, and maps, is managed in a database and is also used for research.
