About the museum

The property with the house name "beim Glaser" was rebuilt in 1807 after a fire. In 1994, the market municipality of Nesselwang acquired it; the newly founded Heimathausverein took over renovation, design, and operation as a Heimathaus. The fundamental renovation begun in 1995 succeeded thanks to volunteer work, sponsors, and grants; the exhibition concept was developed with advice from the state office for non-state museums.

On roughly 500 square meters, the house shows the living and working conditions of a craftsman's smallholding (Handwerkssölde): a small farm with a stable and barn, a retirement apartment (Austragswohnung) with a tiled stove, and on the ground floor a fully furnished glazier's workshop from the late 19th century. It also presents preindustrial methods of farming, alpine dairying, and forestry, as well as Rott haulage (Säumerei, pack-animal transport), which was economically important for Nesselwang for centuries.

Since 2013, an exhibition in the former parents' bedroom on the upper floor, titled "Nesselwang im Spiegel der Zeit" (Nesselwang Through the Ages), has documented the local history. The exhibition on the ski history of Nesselwang is open at the same times, ranging from the village pioneers to Olympic champions such as Franz Keller and Michael Greis.
