About the museum
The municipality of March acquired the grounds of the former Hugstetten parsonage next to the town hall in 1984. After a visit to the farm museum in Mühlhausen in Villingen-Schwenningen, the municipal council decided to set up a local history museum here. The Heimatverein March (local heritage association) was founded in 1986 to establish and run the museum, and the museum was officially opened on May 27, 1988.
The museum is housed in the renovated parsonage barn, which holds mainly farm implements and tools of craftsmen such as blacksmiths, wheelwrights, coopers and saddlers. In the former laundry house of the parsonage there is distilling equipment and related tools; the former laundry house of the castle holds a bake house with a wood-fired oven. In the parsonage the association also displays documents on local history and prehistoric and early historic finds. On action days, craftsmen demonstrate old techniques, and bread is baked in the bake house.
