About the museum
The Heimatstube Barleben is housed in a two-storey half-timbered building on Breiteweg, built in 1801 as an outbuilding of a farmstead. After the land reforms following 1945 it served various purposes, including as a warehouse for a chemicals wholesaler and, until 1995, as a residence.
Following restoration in 1999, the house opened to visitors in 2003. Today the Barleben local history society runs its rooms here and presents exhibitions on regional history, most recently including works featuring Barleben motifs.
The plain half-timbering with striking corner braces and a gabled roof is a distinctive feature of the house in the town centre.
