About the museum

Museum Wolmirstedt is run by the Börde district and also serves as a scientific competence center with a library and archive. It is located on the Schlossdomäne (castle estate) beside the medieval castle complex with the late Gothic castle chapel, completed in 1480.

The permanent exhibitions trace the town's history from its first mention in 1009 to the end of the Second World War, and show how agriculture, leather factories and the sugar industry shaped the town. A dedicated exhibition commemorates the train from Bergen-Belsen that came to a halt near Farsleben in April 1945.

Further rooms are devoted to demonstration workshops of the blacksmith, the wheelwright and the saddler, the Küchenhorn nature reserve in the Ohre lowlands, and the geology and use of raw materials in the Börde district.
