Heimatstube Gößnitz
Heimatstube (local history room) in the restored half-timbered Winkelhof (L-shaped farmstead) of Gößnitz with exhibits, documents, photos and models on the history of the town on the Pleiße.
About the museum
The foundation of the Heimatstube is formed by collections that committed Gößnitz citizens gathered over about a century. This stock only found a permanent exhibition venue after reunification: the listed Winkelhof at Kauritzer Straße 8, a half-timbered ensemble in the town center, was secured and extensively restored in two construction phases between 1992 and 1999. At the end of 1999, the town handed over the building for its new purpose as a Heimatstube.
Since then, the municipal institution has shown, in changing presentations, how the town on the Pleiße, its residents and their customs have developed. On view are everyday objects, historical documents and photographs, as well as detailed models. Operations are largely carried by volunteers: a friends' association takes care of the preservation of the house and its exhibitions and opens the rooms on Sunday afternoons for locals and guests, often with coffee and cake. Groups can also register for other times by arrangement by phone. Kindergartens and schools from Gößnitz visit the house free of charge, while a greatly reduced price applies to children's groups from elsewhere.
