Exhibition on the ground floor of the Altes Rathaus (Old Town Hall) on the Steile Wand in past, present and future: Peace Race (Friedensfahrt) cycling races, historic buildings, festivals and street carnival, shown with photographs, paintings and objects.
About the museum
The Museum Meerane is located in the Old Town Hall on the market square and presents the town's history in a historically significant setting. The permanent town history exhibition has been reworked conceptually and in its design and is organized into newly structured themes.
Exhibits include a silver denarius from the 12th century, which recalls Meerane's first mention in 1174, and the "Willkomm", a jug of the weavers' guild. Other pieces are devoted to weaving, natural healing, the automobile industry and the everyday life of earlier residents.
The display is complemented by a newly designed exhibition on Werner Bochmann (1900–1993), the film composer born in Meerane, who wrote, among other works, the music for "Die Feuerzangenbowle". It was previously shown at the Kunsthaus Meerane and is now housed in the Old Town Hall. Costume tours are offered by appointment.
