About the museum
On February 13, 1984, 28 residents of Drakenburg met and founded a local heritage association to preserve old customs. At first the association had no building of its own. Horst Meyer then made available an almost derelict barn in the former barn quarter. With a great deal of self-help and support from the municipality, it was converted into the "Ole Schüne" and opened in 1987.
The association regards documenting the history of the Flecken (municipality) of Drakenburg as one of its core tasks. The exhibition rooms are on the upper floor, where over the decades the association has collected many objects, including themes such as life on the Weser and people from Drakenburg.
After around 40 years of intensive use, the building was renovated from 2022 to 2024 and has been open to the public again since 2024.
