About the museum
The museum is housed in the former Liebsches Gut, a half-timbered house from the 16th century. It shows the history of home tailoring (Heimschneiderei) along the Lower Main, which spread in the last third of the 19th century because many smallholders needed extra income.
Two typical tailoring workshops illustrate the difference between work before and after the introduction of electricity. One department is devoted to the tailor and entrepreneur Johann Desch, and Hugo Karpf is also remembered: a tailor, trade unionist and member of parliament, who is regarded as the "Vater der Heimarbeiter" (father of home workers).
The house also serves as the local history museum of the town. Finds and excavations, life in earlier times, and winegrowers and basket weavers are presented with objects from the local population.
