About the museum
The Kaskade museum was set up in the oldest storage pumping station of the Oldenburgisch-Ostfriesischer Wasserverband (OOWV). The building, erected in 1956, is preserved in its original condition and stands in Diekmannshausen near Jade on the Jade Bight.
Across roughly 1,000 square meters of exhibition space, spread over six levels, visitors follow the path of drinking water. The exhibition makes clear that good water from the tap was not always a matter of course, explains what drinking water means to people on the coast, and looks at the global water situation. Questions of the future, such as climate change, are also addressed. Historical exhibits as well as hands-on and media stations convey the drinking water supply of the Wesermarsch and the tasks of the association.
In the "Blaues Klassenzimmer" (Blue Classroom), school classes, groups and teams can explore the value of water through workshops, a multimedia quiz, a talk show and role-plays. From the tower of the Kaskade the view extends across the Jade Bight and, in clear weather, as far as the Weser.
