Lieblingsstücke – The Best of Zinnober

A reunion with popular stations from past exhibitions – from the big marble run and magnet experiments to illusions, accompanied by workshops. Runs until the museum closes for remodeling from November 9, 2026.

About the museum

The children's museum is run by a nonprofit association founded in 2000, which from 2001 onward staged hands-on exhibitions for children at various venues around Hannover. There is no collection in the traditional sense: instead of display cases, the museum relies on stations for trying things out, experimenting and playing, many of them built in-house or borrowed from other museums.

In 2014 the museum found its first permanent home in a villa in Linden with around 300 square meters of space. In 2021 it moved to the Lindener Berg, into the converted former Protestant youth center Am Steinbruch, where around 800 square meters are now available for exhibitions, a creative studio and a research lab.

The exhibition themes change roughly once a year and range from math, magnetism and music to money and urban planning to weather and climate; some ideas come from the children themselves. At the end of 2026, an exhibition on democracy and children's rights will be created, for which the museum will transform into a children's town hall. The museum is run largely by volunteers and is funded by the city and the Hannover region.
