Klimaerlebniswelt Oerlinghausen

Interactive exhibition in Urland in Oerlinghausen on climate change and climate adaptation, with a giant globe, simulations and extreme weather.

Opening hoursAdmission €8 Wheelchair accessible

About the museum

The Klimaerlebniswelt is part of the Urland in Oerlinghausen, an adventure area in Lippe that also includes the Archäologisches Freilichtmuseum and the large-scale nature conservation project Sinethi. It is operated by Lippe Tourismus & Marketing GmbH.

The building with its striking honeycomb architecture is made of timber from regional forestry and designed sustainably with green roofs, recycled materials and a solar installation. It was awarded the Red Dot Award 2024, the iF Design Award 2025 and the Silberner Nagel 2025; in 2025 the Urland also won the ADAC Tourismuspreis Nordrhein-Westfalen.

Three digital, interactive experience rooms guide visitors through the topic: an intro room on climate change, species diversity, biodiversity and tourism; the "Grad-Wanderung" (a walk through climate history) with a rotating giant globe and more than 250 interactive features; and the "Kehrtwende" (U-turn), in which visitors themselves implement adaptation measures against heat, drought, heavy rain and storms. Via QR codes, many contents can be saved on a smartphone and explored in more depth at home; visitors collect points for future projects along the way.

Right outside the door begins the roughly five-kilometre Klimaerlebnispfad (climate trail), which leads to the Archäologisches Freilichtmuseum with eleven stations, an app and augmented reality.
