Annual exhibition with over 200 works by artists with disabilities from the house's own studio as well as from Germany and abroad, also marking the house's 30th anniversary.
About the museum
Kunsthaus Kannen grew out of the work of the Alexianer psychiatric clinic in Münster-Amelsbüren. The former Kannen manor farm has belonged to the Alexianer Brothers' Community since 1887; from the 1980s, artistically gifted long-term patients were encouraged there and their works were collected.
In the 1990s the project moved into a villa from the Gründerzeit period on the clinic grounds, where pictures and objects were archived, documented and shown in regular solo and themed exhibitions. At the end of 2000 a barrier-free new building was added, uniting the exhibition hall, studios, library and shop under one roof.
Today the house sees itself as an inclusive meeting place for artists with and without disabilities or mental illness. The collection comprises well over 5,000 works and is one of the largest holdings of outsider art in a psychiatric setting in Germany. New exhibitions in Germany and abroad are continually drawn from it.
