Lindenmuseum Clara Schumann
Tiny museum, freely accessible at any time, beneath the Schmorsdorf Linden about linden trees, village history and Clara Schumann's visits.
About the museum
The Lindenmuseum opened in May 2006 and stands directly next to the Schmorsdorfer Linde, one of the oldest and most massive linden trees in Saxony. With a floor area of only a few square meters, the little building is regarded as the smallest museum in Saxony.
It owes its name to the pianist and composer Clara Schumann. In her youth she was a guest several times of friends of her father at Schloss Maxen and walked from there to the linden tree in the neighboring village.
The exhibition provides information on the significance and symbolism of the linden tree, on the history of the small village of Schmorsdorf, and on Clara Schumann's connections to Maxen. The museum is looked after by the Heimatverein Maxen (local history society), which also maintains a local history museum in the neighboring village.
