About the museum

Max Reger was born on March 19, 1873 in Brand in the Upper Palatinate and lived there with his parents until 1874. For his 40th birthday, the municipality made him an honorary citizen in 1913. His birthplace stands opposite the town hall; nearby, a Max-Reger-Park with a bust, an organ-pipe fountain, and a memorial stone, a conductor statue, and a circular hiking trail commemorate the composer.

On the occasion of his 100th birthday, the municipality opened a memorial room in the town hall on March 25, 1973. Photographs, musical examples, and documents illustrate the individual creative periods of Reger's work. Publications about his life and work, both during his lifetime and afterward, round out the personal collection.

The furnishings also include furniture from Reger's birthplace, commemorative coins, and the honorary citizenship certificate. A particularly notable item is the composer's death mask. The municipality of Brand manages the room; it is accessible during town hall opening hours.
