About the museum
In 2004 the Jurahausverein (Jurahaus association) came across a dilapidated, listed craftsman's house from 1657 in the Buchtal suburb of Eichstätt. The house belonged to the town and was to be demolished. As early as 2006 the association commissioned a preliminary study for the restoration, including a structural and restoration assessment, a timber survey and a cost estimate, even though the house was not yet its property.
Once funding options had been clarified, the association took over the building from the town in 2009, restored it extensively with a great deal of volunteer work and set up a museum about the Jurahaus. The house itself is the most important exhibit: many traces of its building history have been left visible and are explained.
The museum also provides information on the situation of the suburb where the house stands, and on the features and history of Jura houses. An audio guide with stories from former and present residents, and children's programs of its own, deepen the tour; the association's office is also located in the building.
