Annual exhibition in the Galerie im Schlösschen with paintings, objects, installations, and photographic and film works that deal with lost places and places in transition.
About the museum
The house "Hohe Lilie" is one of the most remarkable townhouses in Naumburg's old town. Its tower facing the street, a so-called Kemenate (fortified residential tower), was built around the middle of the 13th century; in the 15th century, two extensions were probably added, and in the Baroque period a fourth. This makes it one of the oldest museum buildings in a German city centre.
In the 16th century, only wealthy merchants lived here; later, less affluent families did too. From 1878, Georg Breden ran a stationery shop with a bookbinding workshop in the house, which lasted until the 1940s; afterwards, a Konsum cooperative store for stationery moved in. From 1991 to 1999, the entire complex was renovated, restored and converted into a museum.
The permanent exhibition spans from the beginnings of the settlement around the Neue Burg and the cathedral, through the citizens' town with its Peter-Pauls-Messe (Peter and Paul fair), the devastating town fire of 1517 and the Reformation, to the Prussian period, industrialisation and the 20th century. At the same time, traces of the house's use can be read in the building itself, such as its own well and fire marks from 1517. The museum belongs to the Stadtmuseum Naumburg, which also looks after the Romanisches Haus in Bad Kösen and other houses.
