About the museum

The museum FLUXUS+ goes back to Berlin entrepreneur and collector Heinrich Liman. In 1982 he met the artist Wolf Vostell, through whom he made contact with other Fluxus artists such as Nam June Paik, Ben Vautier and Emmett Williams, and he hosted exhibitions and Fluxus concerts on his company's premises. These encounters gave rise to an extensive private collection.

On April 21, 2008, Liman opened the museum as the first museum of modern art in Potsdam. It is located in the Schiffbauergasse culture and arts quarter on the Tiefer See lake and occupies listed former stables of a hussar regiment. The "Plus" in its name signals that, alongside the Fluxus artists of the 1960s, it also shows contemporary artists from their circle.

The collection comprises around 700 objects, about half of which are on display. Its core consists of works by Wolf Vostell spanning four and a half decades, complemented by works by Mary Bauermeister, Costantino Ciervo, Lutz Friedel, Hella De Santarossa and Sebastian Heiner. The Museumsstiftung Liman was established in 2017 to secure the museum's long-term future; it is operated by museum FLUXUS+ gGmbH. In addition to the permanent exhibition, there are special exhibitions, an annual show for art students and events such as the DADAMENTA.
