About the museum

The museum goes back to the private costume collection of a couple, which the Heimatverein Wegberg-Beeck (local heritage association) was able to take over in the 1990s. The town of Wegberg acquired the collection and made it available to the association as a permanent loan.

The collection is housed in a listed building on the church square that once served as the mayor's office. Between 1996 and 2001 association members renovated the building themselves; the museum opened on January 14, 2001.

In 2015 the presentation was redesigned and expanded across two permanent exhibition floors. It shows mainly festive clothing from various European countries. Together with the nearby Flax Museum, the house is part of the Beecker Erlebnismuseen (Beeck experience museums).
