About the museum
The Alte Zeughaus on Weiherstraße is a brick building erected in the 18th century, listed since 1986, and considered the narrowest house in the city. The association Kleiner Rat – Altes Zeughaus bought and renovated the building in 1977.
From 1997 a neighboring house was added and converted to create space for exhibitions and events; the enlarged complex opened in 2007. On display are over 3,000 carnival medals and memorabilia of Gladbach's carnival tradition, as well as evidence of the city's history.
