Photo exhibition in the Säulensaal on market culture in Neustadt an der Orla, with historical photographs, a timeline and film footage of the Schützenfest (shooting festival). Runs June to December 2026; from 22 September 2026, an extension “Markt und Märkte im Spiegel der Quellen”.
About the museum
The museum occupies a roughly 500-year-old townhouse on Kirchplatz, where printing has been carried on since 1709. Around 1800 the printer and publisher Johann Carl Gottfried Wagner set up his print shop here; later the ownership and use changed, until in the 20th century bookselling and stationery sales took place in the house.
The city museum itself has existed since 1992. In 13 thematically designed rooms it conveys the history of Neustadt, with a focus on local book printing, on carousel making, which flourished here between 1870 and 1915, and on the Cranach altarpiece of the St. Johannis town church.
In addition, there is a collection of Saxon-Thuringian maps and views from the 17th to 19th centuries, pewterwork and works by the artists' group “Die Arnshaugker”.
