About the museum
The Museumsscheune stands in the Kremmen barn quarter on the edge of the old town. The quarter came into being because, after town fires and epidemics, barns could only be built outside the town walls. With more than 50 buildings, it is considered the largest preserved barn quarter in Germany and has been a listed monument since 1993.
In the Museumsscheune a local history collection displays objects from the agriculture and household of the former Ackerbürgerstadt (town of urban smallholders). The town's tourist information office is also housed here. After more than a year of renovation, the building reopened in July 2023, with a central information counter, an elevator, a step-free restroom, and a wedding room and an event room on the second floor.
