About the museum
The Nagelmuseum opened in November 1998 in the basement of the Jakob-Löffler School. Its foundation is the sample collection of the Röcker company, which made nails in Löchgau from 1876 to 1974; the then municipal councillor Paul Happold saved the holdings from disposal. On this basis, the Arbeitskreis Dorfbild Löchgau e. V. (working group) set up a permanent exhibition on the nail. The municipality of Löchgau is the sponsor.
In 2011 the museum moved into the restored historic farm complex at Obere Straße 8, growing from about 80 to roughly 250 square meters. On display are more than 4,500 types of nails, nail-making machines, nail discs, nail crosses, and nail sculptures, as well as curiosities from around the world. The exhibition explores the significance of the nail in language, advertising, art, and above all in crafts.
