About the museum

Lindenhof lies on the edge of Bayreuth on a former farm. In the 1980s, fallow farmland was converted into wetland biotopes and traditional orchard meadows, providing habitat for white storks among others. Since 2001, cattle and goats have grazed parts of the land.

Today the Landesbund für Vogelschutz (LBV, Bavarian Association for Bird Protection) has run its environmental information center here for more than 30 years, as well as its Upper Franconia district office. Since 2006 the station has held the quality seal "Umweltbildung.Bayern" (Environmental Education Bavaria).

The children's museum, under the motto "Wald erleben und begreifen" (Experience and Understand the Forest), includes a badger den, an animal-sound telephone and a tactile forest panorama to explore. The natural history museum presents the typical habitats of northern Bavaria with their flora and fauna and shows how people have changed the landscape. The 17-hectare outdoor area includes an observation tower, playground, energy trail and a teaching apiary.
