About the museum
The Ölmühle Jäger is located at Obere Holdergasse 2 in the old town of Marbach, in the house where miller Friedrich Jäger set up an electrically powered mill at the beginning of the 20th century. The 1906 installation is almost completely preserved and still operational. It was restored in the early 1990s and is recognized as a technical monument (Technisches Kulturdenkmal). According to the town, it is the only historic and still functioning mill in the region.
The machines are driven by a belt transmission and are set in motion during demonstrations. A museum display explains each step of oil production, from growing the oil plants to the finished product.
A booklet written by Marbach town archivist Albrecht Gühring also presents the miller's family, the history of the house and the history of milling on the Neckar and the Strenzelbach. The building belongs to the Marbach Museumsquartier (museum quarter).
