About the museum

The Ostdeutsche Heimatstuben Iserlohn-Letmathe (East German homeland rooms) were set up in 1980 in four rooms made available by the city in the Alte Rathaus (old town hall) of Letmathe. Several homeland collections had been housed there before, including the collection on the Lower Silesian town of Ohlau. Its museum was founded in 1956 by the Bundesheimatgruppe Ohlau and has been administered by the city of Iserlohn since 2010.

The focus is on Silesian costumes. There are also 18th- and 19th-century glassware, Bunzlau ceramics, porcelain, a model of an Umgebindehaus (a traditional building type) from the Giant Mountains, an Upper Silesian costume, and bonnets from Pomerania and Silesia. Soil from the homeland at Gotschdorf, stones from the Giant Mountains and a brick from Lubowitz Palace, where Joseph von Eichendorff was born, recall the regions of origin.
