Radiomuseum Duisburg
Privately run museum in Duisburg-Ruhrort with hundreds of radios, gramophones and tape recorders from the 1920s to the 1970s.
About the museum
The Radiomuseum Duisburg was founded in 1994 from a private initiative of radio collectors and is based in the Ruhrort district. It is run by a friends' association whose members look after the house on a volunteer basis.
On around 350 square meters, the permanent exhibition, organized by decade, traces the development of radio reception, from early crystal and tube sets of the 1920s through the Volksempfänger and postwar classics to devices of the 1970s. The collection is complemented by gramophones, record players, tape machines and television consoles; a recreated living room shows the place radio held in the everyday life of earlier generations.
Many of the several hundred exhibits still work and are demonstrated on request. The museum also sees itself as a meeting place for those interested in the history of radio and technology.
