For the anniversary of Duisburger Hafen AG, around 25 artists and photographers, along with school classes, present their views of the port as a workplace, a space of memory and a project for the future.
Group exhibition by 20 women artists from the GEDOK-A46 regional group, marking the 100th anniversary of GEDOK.
About the museum
The cubus kunsthalle grew out of a private gallery in Duisburg's Duissern district. In 1994 the City of Duisburg handed the initiative the vacant building of the former Niederrheinisches Museum in the Immanuel-Kant-Park, initially for 25 years; exhibitions have been held there since May 1995.
The conversion was financed through a limited partnership set up specifically for the purpose, in which Duisburg residents and businesses took stakes. The partnership maintains the building, while a nonprofit friends' association is responsible for the exhibition program. Operations are funded by sponsors, donations and the rental of parts of the building, including the Café Museum.
The program presents changing positions in contemporary art without committing to any one movement, often with a regional connection, plus an annual art market featuring artists from Duisburg and the surrounding area. Hands-on exhibitions, workshops for children and concerts aim to lower barriers for visitors and bring life to the Kantpark. Since 2026 the CubuSpace has added a venue for encounters and cultural education. The Kunsthalle is directed by Claudia Schaefer; its glass building sits right next to the sculpture park of the neighboring Lehmbruck Museum.
