About the museum

The narrow-gauge Pöhlwassertalbahn, colloquially known as the "Pöhler Pussel", ran from Grünstädtel to Oberrittersgrün and operated from 1889 to 1971. Because of the narrow valley, only a Saxon narrow-gauge railway with a track gauge of 750 millimeters was feasible. After it was shut down, the museum was set up in 1972 at the former terminus, run by an association.

The complete terminus has been preserved, including the station building, engine shed, track layout, goods and passenger cars, and other service vehicles. The collection includes steam locomotives of the Saxon class IV K, among them the 99 579 built in 1912, as well as diesel locomotives of the Reichsbahn and carriages from the 1880s to the 1930s.

Alongside the vehicle collection, the museum offers hands-on technology, the history of Rittersgrün, an exhibition on the old horse-drawn haulage trade of the Ore Mountains, and a model railway with an automated layout. A replica commemorates the 85-kilogram Rittersgrün meteorite. A small park railway runs on the grounds and takes visitors along on selected dates.
