Schokoladenmuseum Dresden

Private museum on Dresden's chocolate history opposite the Residenzschloss – with chocolate molds by Anton Reiche and a tasting.

Opening hoursAdmission from €6.50 Café

About the museum

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Dresden was a center of the German chocolate industry: around 1870, almost a third of German production came from the city, and the Dresden company Jordan & Timaeus launched a milk chocolate as early as 1839. The private museum of the Dresden chocolate manufacturer CAMONDAS builds on this tradition; its founders first opened a shop in the old town.

The Schokoladenmuseum on Schloßstraße followed in April 2019, located directly in the Schokoladenkontor opposite the Residenzschloss. Its centerpiece is a collection of more than 1,000 tinplate chocolate molds, shown on permanent loan, assembled by Monika Tinhofer, a great-granddaughter of the manufacturer Anton Reiche. Reiche's Dresden sheet-metal goods factory supplied chocolatiers all over the world with hollow molds for Easter bunnies, Santa Clauses and many other motifs.

The second part of the exhibition explores what makes good chocolate – from the cocoa bean through processing to taste. A tasting is part of every visit. The museum also offers guided tours, tastings paired with wine, cheese or ice cream, and programs for children and school classes.
