About the museum
The SCHOTT Villa in Jena was the home of company founder Otto Schott and his family. Schott is regarded as a pioneer of modern glass science and glass technology: he researched the relationships and properties of glass as a material, developed whole groups of special glasses for optical and technical applications, and introduced new manufacturing processes.
Today the villa is the museum of the SCHOTT group at its founding site in Jena. Several exhibitions show Otto Schott's life's work as well as the company and innovation history, which was shaped by division and reunification and led the company to become an international technology group. One room is devoted to innovations in specialty glass.
On site, the visit can be supplemented with the free SCHOTT Villa app for a virtual journey through time; there is also a virtual tour. The company archive is likewise located in Jena but can only be used on request.
