About the museum
The first house on the plot was built in 1794/95 by Heinrich Lücken. It passed through several generations of families, including the Peters and Seemann families, after whom the house is named today. In 1988 the municipality of Langeoog bought the building, and in 1990 it was opened as a local history museum and handed over to the Heimatverein Langeoog e. V. (local heritage association).
The displays include objects from the island's past, such as traditional costumes, crockery, furniture, bathing carts, advertising posters, postcards, and old pictures and letters. Part of the collection commemorates the singer Lale Andersen, who lived on the island for many years.
Since 1996 the house has also served as a registry office. Civil weddings take place in the former living room, the Friesenstube, and in the inner courtyard a brick bearing each couple's date and initials is set into the paving. From 2010 the listed building's condition deteriorated; the municipality, as owner, looks after its preservation and renovation.
