About the museum

The museum is located on the grounds of the former Pütnitz airfield on the eastern shore of Lake Ribnitzer See. From 1935, a land and seaplane air base was built here; after the war, fishing cutters were built in the hangars for a few years before Soviet air forces took over the site and expanded it several times. In 1994 the last aircraft left Pütnitz, and the area became a conversion site.

In 2001, technology enthusiasts founded a friends' association for a technical museum at the airfield. At first they took over mainly military equipment and soon expanded the collection to include civilian vehicles from the states of the former Eastern Bloc. In 2004 the collection opened to the public as a museum.

Three large halls of the former seaplane station house military wheeled vehicles, civilian cars, trucks and two-wheelers, as well as tracked vehicles, aviation technology and a model-building exhibition; on the grounds, exhibits of the Deutsche Reichsbahn and a restored patrol boat add to the collection. Visitors can ride along in historic vehicles or drive them themselves under instruction. The association also organizes vehicle meetups, flea markets and evening events; since 2023, a small future museum in the former control building has provided information about plans for the site.
