Günter Schuster works exclusively with used textiles, which he transforms artistically and combines with linguistic elements. The result is a space for multilayered interpretations.
The annual exhibition of the Bramscher Verein für Bildende Kunst asks what gives stability in times of change, and what artistic forms of expression artists find for this.
About the museum
The Tuchmacher Museum Bramsche lies at the mill site on the Hase river, where a grain mill already stood in the Middle Ages. In the 16th century, a fulling mill and the guild of Bramsche cloth makers were added; around the mill, the homes and workshops of the craftsmen were built, who shared the water power.
In 1849, the cloth makers' guild acquired the mill complex. About two decades later, it built a three-story factory building to house industrial textile machines. After the Bramsche cloth makers' guild ended in the 1970s, many of the machines were later restored to working order.
Today the museum is run by the City of Bramsche. The collection centers on the self-acting mule (Selfaktor), carding sets and looms, the heart of cloth production. There are also textiles from local businesses, such as the clothing manufacturer Inge-Kleider, documents and photographs, and contemporary textile art acquired by the friends' association. In the workshop, wool blankets are still woven on machines more than a hundred years old.
