Turmmuseum im Städtischen Wachturm Geyer

Municipal museum in the 42-meter-tall medieval watchtower of Geyer, with mining, minerals, passementerie and a tower room.

Opening hoursAdmission €5

About the museum

The defense and watchtower of Geyer dates from the 14th century and is about 42 meters tall. Since 1952, the Städtisches Museum (municipal museum) has been housed where the tower keeper once lived with his family and watched over the town. It is one of the largest tower museums of its kind in Germany.

Across seven floors, visitors learn about the mining and town history of Geyer. On display are local minerals, a working model of the Geyersberg, a passementerie room with 18th-century passementerie, and the Lotterstube with a valuable collection of pewter. The bells "Frieden" and "Einheit" also hang in the tower and are part of its peal.

In the highest room, the Heimatstube, the tower keeper once lived; today it offers a view over the rooftops of the town and, on request, serves as a wedding room for up to 25 people. For children there is a discovery tour with a tower keeper's pass, and craft afternoons are offered during the school holidays.
