About the museum
The open-air museum goes back to the local historian Dr. Johann Bohls, who in 1908 called for a threatened Low German farmhouse from Lintig to be rebuilt in the Speckenbüttel city park in Lehe. The Bauernhausverein Lehe e.V. was founded the same year and still runs the museum today. The smoke house from 1910 is the cornerstone of the site.
The Geest farm complex grew over decades. Alongside the smoke house came the retirement house (Altenteilerhaus) built in 1912, a fence barn, a sheep shed, a moor cottage (Moorkate), a bake house with a clay oven, a threshing barn with a horse-powered gin (Göpel) and a beehive stand. A marsh house from Sandstedt was erected here in 1927, burned down in 1946 and rebuilt on the old foundations in 1968–1973. The post mill was built in 1984–1986 after an old model.
Together, the buildings and collections document rural life in the marsh, geest and moor areas of the Elbe-Weser triangle. The smoke house and the marsh house are also used for events and private celebrations.
