About the museum
The Naturum Göhrde is devoted to the Göhrde forest, one of the largest contiguous mixed deciduous forests in Lower Saxony. It is housed in a building from 1672 that belonged to the former hunting lodge of the Göhrde. The operator is the small municipality of Göhrde, which runs the house as an independent environmental education facility; a support circle backs the work.
The forest museum presents the animal and plant life of the area, including red deer, wolf and the rare hermit beetle. The centerpiece is the Göhrder Wildtierkino (wildlife cinema): in a darkened hall, stuffed forest animals star in a show with light and sound effects. Outside, a nature trail, a forest labyrinth and the Baumriesenpfad (Tree Giants Trail) lead into the forest. There are also guided tours, children's birthday parties and nature education programs for school classes and other groups.
